La Sainte-Chapelle

Situated on the Ile de la Cité, a short walk from Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Sainte-Chapelle chapel is a jewel of Gothic art. It was built in the 12th century, upon the order of King Saint-Louis, to house Christ’s Crown of Thorns, now held at Notre-Dame. The upper chapel of the monument is covered in 600 m² of stained-glass windows, of which two thirds are authentic. It’s one of the most complete and remarkable sets of stained glass of this era.

L'Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe Paris, the most monumental of all triumphal arches, was built between 1806 and 1836. Even though there were many modifications from the original plans, reflecting political changes and power struggles, the Arch still retains the essence of the original concept which was a powerful, unified ensemble.

The Arc de Triomphe stands at the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle, also known as the "Place de l'Étoile". It’s located at the western end of the Champs-Élysées. The arches whole decorative style is entirely of the tradition of sculpture from the first half of the nineteenth century. The triumphal arch is in honor of those who fought for France, in particular, those who fought during the Napoleonic Wars. Engraved on the inside and at the top of the arch are all of the names of the generals and wars fought. There are inscriptions in the ground underneath the vault of the arch which include the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I where  the Memorial Flame burns.

Le Sacre-Coeur

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris, is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Paris, France.  A popular landmark, the basilica is located at the summit of the butte Montmatre, the highest point in the city. Sacré-Cœur is a double monument, political and cultural, both a national penance for the defeat of France in the 1871 Franco-Prussian War and the socialist.

The Sacré-Cœur Basilica was designed by Paul Abadie. Construction began in 1875 and was finished in 1914. It was consecrated after the end of World War I in 1919. Today the Basilica is asserted to be dedicated in honor of the 58,000 who lost their lives during the war, the decree of the Assemblée nationale, 24 July 1873, responding to a request by the archbishop of Paris by voting its construction, specifies that it is to "expiate the crimes of the Commune".

La Notre Dame

The construction of the Gothic cathedral started in 1163 during the Middle Ages when Bishop Maurice de Sully laid the first stone of what is today one of Paris’ most famous monuments. It took almost 200 years to complete the sanctuary which is praised to be a prototype of Gothic cathedrals in Europe. The western façade of Notre-Dame dates back to the 13th century (completion of the North Tower in 1240 and the South Tower in 1250) and was restored in the 19th century by Viollet-le-Duc.

La Tour Eiffel

When Gustave Eiffel’s company built Paris’ most recognizable monument for the 1889 World’s Fair, many regarded the massive iron structure with skepticism. Now one of the most recognizable structures on the planet, the Eiffel Tower underwent a major facelift in 1986 and is repainted every seven years.
Today, the Eiffel Tower, is considered an architectural wonder and attracts more visitors than any other paid tourist attraction in the world. And In 1889, Paris hosted an Exposition Universelle (World’s Fair) to mark the 100-year anniversary of the French Revolution. The Eiffel Tower now celebrates it.
